Familiarizing with Lawn Mowers Safety

First before buying and using a lawn mower there are few hazards one needs to be familiarized with.  Lawn mower is a cutting machine designed to trim grass but has the potential to cut anything that is placed in its path. Even an old, worn blade can cause serious injuries!

  • Keep an eye out for stray stuffs in the path of the mower.
  • Items discharged from mowers can cause severe injury to other people in the area and/or to the operator when there is no guard in place.
  • Property damage can also occur from thrown items from lawnmowers.
  • If struck by the blades, these items can be thrown and travel at high  speed.
  • Mowers can also cause severe burns. The moving parts and the engine can remain hot for some time after the engine has been turned off.
  • The Fuel from Petrol mowers can be very hazardous. Petrol is a highly explosive and flammable substance and thus ought to be treated with care.

Buying Guide for the Best Lawnmower

Whether you are looking for the best price lawnmowers or the best lawnmower for zoysia grass, we can help you.

Our job is to make sure that you get a lawnmower that meets your needs. For starters, here are a few factors to consider when shopping for a lawnmower.

Lawn Size

Yes, the size of your lawn or how overgrown it is should be considered in the choice of your lawnmower. If it’s a small lawn, go with a small lawnmower and vice versa. Buy a lawnmower that can cope with longer grass if your lawn hasn’t been cut in a while.

Type of Lawnmower

Generally, there are three types of lawnmowers, each with its benefits and downsides. These are hover, rotary, and cylinder mowers. Hover mowers are ideal for awkwardly shaped terrains.

Rotary mowers work well with longer grass and bumpy loans. Cylinder mowers can give an awesome close-cut finish but to get good results, it must be used on a perfectly level lawn.

Manual, Cordless, Electric, Or Petrol Lawnmower?

Manual or push lawnmowers are perfect for people with really tiny lawns; you have to push it manually to cut grass.

If you have a really big lawn or overgrown grass, you are better off with a petrol mower. They are consistent and don’t choke easily.

Cordless mowers are battery-powered, best suited for lawns with sections that are hard to reach with a corded lawnmower.

Electric mowers are connected to a power source via a cord and can be used for small and medium-sized lawns. Compare lawnmowers to ensure that you choose one that fits your mowing needs.

  • Hello there!

I found this article just in time. Next week I’m going to visit my grandfather and I know he needs a lawn mower. He is very fond of gardening and the old lawn mower is broken, so I am sure he will be so happy to get a new one.

I had a look and I decided to buy your first recommendation, the Poulan Pro 961420141. It seems the best to me and also the easiest to use.

Thank you for this useful and well-writen content!

  • Hey Martin,

thanks for such informative guide on how to choose the right lawn mower, I will be definitely sure to follow these helpful advices and steps which You cover here when I will be ready to purchase new lawn mower. As far as Your top picks go, well I have to go with Poulan Pro 961420141 for few reasons. First of all, I am really digging the design of it, looks very sleek and proffesional, it gives almost that elegant look I would say, if calling a lawn mover elegant makes sense, haha! The second big & significant reason why I”e found this mover to be very appealing to me, is because of that simplicity that comes with thanks to the Check & Add technology, which makes using Poulan Pro 961420141 very user-friendly and hustle-free if You will. On top of this, it offers a high level of comfort & control which is the most important thing in my opinion, as it goes to show that this device is effective at what it does, and what it does- it does really well. Unfourtunetaly though, it has one cone which kind of bothers me a bit because I am not really familiar with it and I don’t know how to react to it, and that would be the engine smoking. Should I be concerned about this issue and what kind of pottential damage it can do to the engine of this mover?

Keep up the great work Martin and best of luck to You 😉

  • Very informative and thorough review.

Now I have a question, my husband and I are renting and the whole front yard and back yard is extremely unlevel all over. Since we are renting, we aren’t really allowed to do any yard work like that.

Would you say the Husqvarna would work best? It’s definitely something we’ll have to look into once spring rolls around.

    • As I reviewed earlier the best choice is to get the specifications of the mower I think with the Husqvarna would be good in such terrains. Check of the comments from the customer user >>”I just received this mower. I works great and has enough power to pull you up a small hill. I do not know what the complaints about making turns with 4 wheel drive being more difficult than with 2 wheel drive mowers are. The steps you do with a 4 wheel drive is no different than with a 2 wheel drive.”

  • Hi,

I would like to offer you my review of your latest post.

I really enjoyed your review. I don’t know much about lawnmowers but your article helped me understand the different types available. Your review of is easy to read and understand. I like that you chose an average price for your review and didn’t go for the super deluxe model that someone would probably not by online. The ones you present will reach a larger audience.

In your review, I liked how you explained the pros and cons for each model you presented and the specials features.

I want to point out that you are repeating yourself. You may have done a copy and paste but this part of the text is mentioned twice at the beginning of your post and once after your 3rd lawnmower:

You should remove the one after the description and maybe present more models to compensate with the lack of length.

I hope you found my comments helpful.
